Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 28 to Sept. 4:
A common scam involving stolen credit cards occurred at a business in the 1400 block of Burton Road in Gibsons after the business received an order from an off-Coast caller, who initially gave a credit card number that was declined.
The caller gave a second credit card number that was accepted. The caller then asked for the purchase to be shipped by courier to Ghana. The business owner processed the order, but felt suspicious and contacted the credit card company, who advised the credit card number used was in fact stolen.
The courier company was contacted and the merchandise was returned to the business.
Sometime between Aug. 27 and 29, a thief stole a boat trailer that had been parked temporarily on Highway 101 near the Roberts Creek Provincial Park entrance.
The boat trailer is a 1997 white Shorelander.
Sometime between Aug. 27 and 29, a thief stole a yellow Brodie 18-speed mountain bike from an open carport in the 3300 block of Beach Avenue in Sechelt. The bike, which had a soft black seat and a combination lock and chain wrapped around the frame, is in good condition.
On Aug. 27, a thief stole a variety of scuba diving gear from the driveway of a residence in the 1400 block Tanager Place in Roberts Creek. The stolen items include a Scuba Pro MK11 Plus R190 second stage regulator, a Scuba Pro Air 2 back-up regulator, a medium-size black buoyancy compensating device, a size large blue and black neoprene dry suit, black and grey fins and a blue flashlight. All of the equipment was marked with the initials "KM" or "K MACKAY." Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file No. 12-6045.
On Aug. 29, a vandal covered two vehicles parked in the 800 block Marine Drive in Gibsons with ketchup. No actual damage to the vehicles was reported.
On Aug. 30, RCMP witnessed a vehicle speeding on Highway 101 near Lawson Road in Sechelt. The officer confirmed on radar that the vehicle was driving at over 100 km per hour in a 60-km zone. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver, who had an outstanding warrant for driving while prohibited, was arrested and taken to cells.
The vehicle, which appeared structurally and mechanically unsound and had bald tires, was impounded and will require an inspection. The driver was issued violation tickets for excessive speeding and driving without a licence.
Overnight on Aug. 30, a suspect gained entry into a residence in the 5400 block of Wharf Road in Sechelt through an unlocked patio door. The suspect does not appear to have stolen anything, but the owner noticed one of her figurines had been moved outside and a pair of shoes, presumably belonging to the suspect, was left behind. The file is still under investigation.
On Aug. 30, an abandoned motorcycle was found in the 8600 block of Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay. It turned out the motorcycle had been stolen from a residence in the 8700 block of Redrooffs. The motorcycle was recovered without any damage.
A 76-year-old man received minor injuries after the motorized wheelchair he was travelling is was involved in a minor accident in Sechelt Tuesday morning, Sept. 4.
According to police, the man was eastbound on the sidewalk approaching the exit to Trail Bay Mall on Teredo Street when a vehicle approached the driveway, pulling onto the sidewalk portion to get a better viewpoint due to vegetative and a hydro pole obstructing her view. As she pulled onto the sidewalk, the man collided with the passenger fender causing minor scratches.
