Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 29 to May 7:

On April 29, a Coast resident received a call from a male with an East Indian accent. The male told the resident he worked with Microsoft and that he wished to assist the resident with some errors on the resident's computer.

The resident followed the male's directions until the male asked for the resident's credit card information. The resident became suspicious and discontinued the call. Unfortunately, the computer was now frozen and police have advised the resident to take the computer to a reputable computer store and have it cleaned of viruses. This type of computer scam is very common. To learn more about all types of common scams, please visit www.antifraudcentre.ca.

On April 30, police stopped a possible impaired driver after a witness reported the vehicle swerving over the centre line while northbound on Teredo Street in Sechelt. The driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication, advised he had had a few drinks a few hours prior. The driver was given two roadside alcohol-screening tests, both of which resulted in a 'fail' reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On May 1, a witness reported a vehicle heading north on Highway 101 from Gibsons that was travelling at well below the posted speed limit and creating a traffic hazard. The witness provided a licence plate number and vehicle description and police located the driver a short time later.

The driver said she believed she was travelling at a safe speed, but police advised she needed to abide by the speed limit and if unable to do so, should pull over to allow quicker traffic to go by without obstruction.

On May 2, a thief stole a backpack from a customer at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101 in Sechelt. The backpack is described as an over-the-shoulder style in black with red piping. The backpack contained a wallet with an assortment of identification, keys and cash.

On May 2, a shoplifter was caught on surveillance cameras stealing several bottles of alcohol from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way.

Early on May 3, a thief broke into a residence in the 5400 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect broke a sliding glass door to gain entry and was seen by the resident before fleeing the scene. The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5'8" tall and was wearing a hoodie and dark pants. The suspect stole several bottles of Hardy's wine and one beer.

On May 3, a hit and run occurred northbound in the 5600 block of Highway 101 in Sechelt after a vehicle in the right hand lane was side-swiped by a second vehicle that drifted across the line. The struck vehicle followed the second vehicle to Wharf Road and attempted to exchange information with the driver who refused to provide her information and fled the scene. Fortunately, the suspect driver's licence plate was noted.

Police located the driver who admitted fleeing the scene, but advised she wasn't aware that she had to provide to the other driver whose vehicle she'd struck. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to complete a pass safely.

Overnight on May 4, a thief stole a black Mercury eight-horsepower outboard motor off a boat that had been stored at the public boat launch at Sakinaw Lake Road in Pender Harbour. The motor had been locked to the boat, but the thief smashed the lock to gain access.

On May 6, police attended a single vehicle collision in the 12000 block of the Highway 101 after a vehicle lost control and ended up in the southbound ditch. Speed was determined to be a factor and police also detected the odour of alcohol on the class seven driver. After a roadside alcohol-screening test, the driver was issued a 12-hour driving suspension and a violation ticket for drive without due care and attention.
