Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 19 to 26: A Coast resident reported receiving a suspicious call from a male purporting to be a police officer, requesting a donation for a youth program on the Coast.

A Coast resident reported receiving a suspicious call from a male purporting to be a police officer, requesting a donation for a youth program on the Coast. The resident did not get any further information from the caller, but did refuse to make a donation. Please note that the RCMP does NOT solicit funds for charities over the phone.

Overnight on June 19, several thefts from vehicles were reported near Sechelt Inlet Road, Wharf Road, Stockwell Road and Marmot Road. Two male suspects were located on Sechelt Inlet Road after a resident in the area noticed the two unknown males looking down driveways. The suspects, who had backpacks containing a variety of stolen items, were arrested for theft. Police are attempting to locate the owners of the recovered property.

On June 19, police attended a single-vehicle collision in the 11600 block of Highway 101 after a northbound vehicle lost control, spun around and across the southbound lane and crashed into a hydro pole. The vehicle sustained substantial damage and the lone occupant and driver was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver advised she had been driving the speed limit when she lost control on the corner, and over corrected. Alcohol and weather are not considered factors. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failure to keep right.

On June 20, while attending to a noise complaint near Secret Beach in Gibsons, an officer noted a vehicle overloaded with people driving on Chaster Road near Shaw Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop with the young driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication.

The driver, who admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening, was given two roadside alcohol screening tests, which resulted in two "warn" results. The driver was issued an immediate three-day roadside prohibition and a violation ticket for drive contrary to restrictions and the vehicle was impounded.

On June 22, a single-vehicle collision involving a cyclist occurred in a parking lot in the 900 block of Gibsons Way after a driver mistook her gas pedal for her brake pedal while in reverse, and reversed into a cyclist, momentarily pinning the cyclist against a building. The cyclist suffered minor injuries, but was able to walk on his own. The driver was issued a violation ticket for backing unsafely.

On June 23, a possible impaired driver was reported after a witness noted a vehicle parked halfway up a lawn near Trail Avenue and Turnstone Crescent.

While enroute, police were advised that the suspect vehicle was now driving around the block before stopping at a residence in the area.

An officer located the driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication walking nearby. The driver admitted to consuming a bottle of tequila the night before. The driver was issued with a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, a violation ticket for driving an uninsured vehicle and the vehicle was impounded.

On June 23, a speeder was caught travelling down the ferry by-pass at more than double the posted speed limit. The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded.

Early on June 25, a string of mischief to vehicles from Tita Way to the 5500 block of Wharf Road was reported. Damage ranged from smashed windshields to damage to vehicle interiors. No theft was reported.

Between June 22 and 25, a thief stole a large amount of tools from two industrial machines that were parked up Wilson Creek Forest Service Road. The thief cut through a heavy duty lock to gain entry into a tool box and gained entry to two excavator compartments. The thief made off with a variety of tools including heavy duty socket sets, combination wrenches, pry bars, grease guns and industrial brush cutting blades. Some of the items had "10-7" or "10-8" engraved into them.

Police are following up with a vehicle of interest that was seen in the area.
