Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 20 to 27:

Overnight on March 20, a vandal smashed a window at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101. The vandal is believed to have used a piece of broken concrete to break the window. Nothing was stolen and no further damage was reported.

A Coast resident was recently defrauded a large amount of money after attempting to purchase a piece of equipment off a popular on-line buy and sell classifieds website. The buyer had done some research into the seller company, but didn't find anything negative, so proceeded with the transaction, wiring the funds through his bank.

While waiting for confirmation of receipt of funds, the buyer did more research and found several reports of possibly fraudulent actions by the seller and tried to stop his funds transfer. He learned his funds had cleared and were deposited in an account in the United Kingdom. The seller company's website has since been closed. The buyer is still trying to work things out with his bank to retrieve his money. Police remind people to be very cautious about using on-line classifieds and to educate themselves about fraud.

Vandals are striking both ends of the Coast as residents in the 12500 block of Warnock Road in Madeira Park and the 500 block of Shaw Road in Gibsons reported their houses being egged this month. No other damage occurred.

Sometime between March 16 and 23, a Coast resident lost a sentimentally valuable man's 10KT yellow gold bracelet. The bracelet is a heavy curb link, approximately eight inches long and approx 8.5 mm in width, with a lobster clasp.

On March 23, a witness reported a possibly impaired driver leaving a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Road in Sechelt.

An officer attended and located the driver attempting to leave the parking lot. The driver was pulled over and as she was exhibiting signs of intoxication, she was arrested for alleged impaired driving. The vehicle was impounded and the file is still under investigation.

On March 21, a 1995 green Aerostar van was stolen from the parking lot in the 700 block of School Road in Gibsons. The vehicle did not have any plates on it. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 12-1756.

Early on March 24, a resident in the 500 block of Hough Road in Gibsons caught two unknown male suspects inside his unlocked vehicle. One male is described as being about six feet tall, in his late teen's, early 20's, wearing a black jacket over grey hoodie. A second male was also in the car, but due to the darkness, no description was obtained. Nothing was stolen or damaged.

On March 25, a shoplifter was caught at a business in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt and detained until police arrived. The business did not wish to pursue charges, but the suspect youth, who was also caught on surveillance video, has been banned from the premises.

Sometime between March 5 and 24, a thief stole a vehicle from the 4400 block of Highway 101. The black, 1995 Chevy Blazer, did not have any licence plates on it when it was stolen. Anyone with any information about this vehicle is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 12-1827.
