Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 22 to 28:
RCMP are asking any witnesses of a pedestrian-involved accident to come forward to talk to police.
On Oct. 3 a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing at a crosswalk on Dolphin Avenue and Inlet Road in Sechelt, causing him to fall to the ground. The driver stopped and spoke with the pedestrian, who, at the time, appeared uninjured. No information was exchanged. The vehicle was a red Ford truck driven by a Caucasian female.
On Oct. 25 RCMP received a report of a theft from an unlocked vehicle that occurred in the 800 block of Gibsons Way between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. A Halfmoon Bay firefighting helmet and jacket were stolen from the vehicle. RCMP are asking anyone with information on this theft to call the detachment at 604-885-2266, and reference file 2013-7582.
On Oct. 25 at approximately 11:40 p.m. RCMP stopped a pickup truck at Wharf Road and Highway 101 in Sechelt after noticing it swerving all over the roadway. The driver admitted to police that he had been drinking and two breath samples were obtained, both resulting in a 'fail' reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On Oct. 26 at approximately 2 a.m., a witness reported a theft from vehicle in progress in the parking lot of her business on Wharf Road in Sechelt. The suspect was described as being male, 5'8 tall, stocky build, short trimmed dark hair, wearing an orange shirt and dark pants. The suspect left through a fence to another parking lot. Police attended and found two vehicles had been rummaged through.
Police located an additional vehicle that had been rummaged through on Xenichen Avenue. All of the vehicles were unlocked. The matter is still under investigation.
On Oct. 26 at approximately 8:45 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Gibsons Way after travelling at a high rate of speed. The female driver had an odour of liquor on her breath and admitted consuming liquor. Two breath samples were obtained, both resulting in 'fail' readings. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On Oct. 28 at approximately 8:30 a.m., RCMP and paramedics attended a three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Leek Road. All vehicles were traveling southbound when the lead vehicle stopped to make a left turn. The drivers of the following vehicles complained that the sun obstructed their vision and did not see the stopped vehicle. As a result, neither driver saw the stopped vehicle causing a chain of two rear-end collisions when the second vehicle collided with the stopped vehicle and the third vehicle collided with the second. All vehicles were towed and all occupants escaped without injury.
On Oct. 28 at approximately 3:30 p.m., RMCP and paramedics attended a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus on Gibsons Way and Pratt Road. Police spoke with the bus driver who explained that the bus was rear-ended by a westbound sedan. It was determined that the driver was talking to her passenger in the vehicle and was temporarily distracted when she struck the stopped bus. The bus sustained no damage; however the sedan was towed with front-end damage. All of the students on board were checked and cleared by paramedics. The driver of the sedan was issued a violation ticket for drive without due care.
On Oct. 28 at approximately 8:45 p.m., RCMP and paramedics responded to a report of a single -vehicle roll-over in the 8300 block of Redroofs Road in Halfmoon Bay. The driver explained that he was travelling on Redroofs Road and swerved to miss a pair of deer on the roadway, causing his vehicle to go off road and overturn.
