Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of June 5 to June 11:
On June 5, a thief broke into a residence in the 4300 block of Marble Road in Wilson Creek. It is believed the thief gained entry through an unlocked rear sliding door and stole a Toshiba laptop computer, an iPod, a camera charger and a cell phone charger.
On June 5, a possible impaired driver was reported on Highway 101 in Davis Bay after a witness noted the vehicle drifting back and forth on the road. Police located the vehicle parked near Field Road and spoke to the driver who admitted to having taken a few puffs off a marihuana joint prior to driving. The witness was not able to provide enough information to merit issuing the driver a violation ticket and the officer did not feel the driver was impaired, so he was let go with a warning about smoking drugs and driving.
Around 1 a.m. on June 6, a male teen in a teal hoodie threw a large rock from the side of the road at a vehicle driving down Norwest Bay Road in Sechelt. The vehicle drove over the rock causing damage to the under carriage, spewing liquid down the road. Patrols for the teen suspect were negative, but police did note several rocks had been thrown onto the road. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 12-3600.
Several popular scams have resurfaced on the Coast, so police remind the public again to be wary of any offers for employment as a "mystery shopper" or offers from foreign countries to share in large fortunes.
Unexpected cheques that arrive in the mail should be treated with suspicion and the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

On June 6, a two-vehicle collision occurred in the 5700 block of Teredo Street in Sechelt after a vehicle attempted to make a left turn and was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Teredo. Witnesses reported the vehicle making the left turn pulled out into the heavy traffic and that the westbound vehicle, which was obeying the speed limit, did not have enough time to stop to avoid collision.
Both vehicles had to be towed and the driver of the left-turning vehicle, who was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of a sore neck, was issued a violation ticket for failing to a yield after a stop.
Several incidents of mischief have been reported in Halfmoon Bay in the past week, including on Southwood Road at Fawn Road, where a stop sign was dug out with its concrete base and tossed into the bushes, and Southwood at Redrooffs Road where two community mailboxes were knocked over.
Overnight on June 7, thieves broke into a business in the 13200 block of Highway 101 by cutting through a fence. The thieves stole 21 bags of Pro-Mix premium soil, rubber garbage cans, and a variety of gardening tools, all of which are commonly used items in marijuana grow operations. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 12-3650, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
On June 9, an officer noticed a vehicle northbound on Marine Drive near Hopkins Road with a burnt out driver's side taillight. The officer initiated a traffic stop and detected the odor of marijuana, and observed a joint burning in the ashtray.
The driver also admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to driving. The driver was issued a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a "fail."
The vehicle was towed and the driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, and an administrative driving prohibition. The file is still under investigation.
On June 9, police attended a single-vehicle collision on Payne Road near Reed Road in Gibsons after a vehicle lost control, went off-road and ended up flipped over in the ditch. The lone occupant and driver climbed out of the vehicle on his own, although he had sustained some injury to his back. The "N" driver, who did not have a valid driver's licence, admitted to having consumed alcohol before driving and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver was taken to hospital and the vehicle was towed. The driver is being investigated for impaired driving.
Between June 7 and 11, thieves broke into a residence on Garden Bay Lake and stole a blue Pelican pedal boat, model HDA08 and a black chainsaw with a 16" bar. It is believed the thieves broke in through a balcony door.
