Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 6 to Aug. 13, 2013:
On Aug. 6, police RCMP over a vehicle near the intersection of Wharf Road and Ebbtide Street in Sechelt, after it drove by in the dark with no tail lights.
It was determined that the rear running lights were not working and the vehicle also had two nearly bald tires. The driver was issued a notice and order to repair the vehicle before driving it any further. The driver, who showed some signs of intoxication, was also given a roadside alcohol-screening test, resulting in a 'warn' reading. The driver was given a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was towed.
On Aug. 6, a theft occurred at a business in the 5500 block of the Sunshine Coast Highway in Sechelt. The suspect used a large bill to pay for a small order and then, while the cashier was attempting to give back change, distracted the cashier and left the premises with his original bill note, the change and the goods.
Police are reviewing security video footage.
On Aug. 6, a witness saw three males and a female attempting to light a pile of branches stacked up against a building in the 1000 block of Roberts Creek Road.
The witness questioned the four people who quickly extinguished the fire and fled the area. Extensive patrols for the suspects were negative and a tent and hammock were located behind the building. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 13-5411.
Overnight on Aug. 6 and 7, a thief gained entry into unlocked vehicles parked in the 600 block of Dougall Road and the 200 block of Burns Road in Gibsons, stealing a bag of new face care products and some cash. No damage was reported to any of the vehicles.
On Aug. 7, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Trail Avenue and Anchor Road in Sechelt, after a vehicle made a left turn into the path of an on-coming vehicle and struck the front driver's side panel. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The driver of the left-turning vehicle was issued a violation ticket for fail to yield.
On Aug. 11, police came upon a vehicle in the ditch on North Road near Boyle Road in Gibsons. The driver, who was standing outside the vehicle, advised he had been trying to back out of his driveway to allow another vehicle to get out and accidently backed into the ditch. The driver was exhibiting some signs of intoxication and admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening, but stated he had had no intention of leaving his driveway. As the driver had no negative driving history, police explained care and control of a motor vehicle and issued him a violation ticket for backing unsafely.
On Aug. 7 or 8, a thief stole a Hartur ultrasound from a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt. The item measures approximately five-inches by 10-inches. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP and reference file 13-5585.
On Aug. 12, police pulled over a vehicle on Cemetary Road in Gibsons, for having two different licence plates. The vehicle turned out to be unregistered and the plates were associated with two other vehicles. The driver admitted he did not have a valid driver's licence. The driver was issued an unlicenced driver prohibition, a seven-day vehicle impound notice as well as violation tickets for no insurance, fail to licence vehicle and wrong number plates and the vehicle was impounded.
