To vote in the Sept. 20 federal election you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on election day, reside in the electoral district you vote in and be on the voters list. If you aren’t on the list, you can have your name added when you vote.

To vote by mail, eligible voters can apply online or at an Elections Canada office by Sept. 14.

The elections.ca website has full details on the procedure. It encourages voters to apply and to return their ballots as soon as possible, as it is the voter’s responsibility to ensure their marked ballot is received by Elections Canada before polls close on Sept. 20.

Votes can be cast in person at Elections Canada Offices up to Sept. 14. These sites are slated to open shortly. Advance polls are being scheduled for Sept. 11 to 13. On Sept. 20, polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Voters can only vote at their assigned polling station.

Voters will be asked to present approved ID or prove their identity to receive a ballot.
