Voters scrap HST

The harmonized sales tax is no more. Voters in B.C. voted to scrap the controversial tax, meaning the province will have to begin to transition back to the former PST. Elections BC released the referendum results Friday morning which showed that 54.

Voters in B.C. voted to scrap the controversial tax, meaning the province will have to begin to transition back to the former PST.

Elections BC released the referendum results Friday morning which showed that 54.73 per cent of voters voted yes to extinguish the HST while 45.27 per cent voted no, wishing the HST to remain in place.

In the riding of Powell River-Sunshine Coast, 12,197 or 58.24 per cent voted yes to extinguish the HST while 8,745 or 41.76 per cent voted no. A total of 20,942 valid votes were received by Elections BC from the riding.
