On April 25, the Sunshine Coast RCMP took time to recognize three of its volunteers for their outstanding contributions to the RCMP and communities they serve.

On behalf of the Ministry of Justice and "E" Division Auxiliary program, Staff Sgt. Herb Berdahl presented auxiliary constables Jedediah Simpkins and Gabriel Stevenson with an award for their contribution of 500 hours and beyond in 2012. Simkins contributed 509.5 hours, while Stevenson contributed 562.75 hours. The auxiliary program contributed a total of 1292.5 hours to the Sunshine Coast and neighbouring detachments. This included attending community events, ride alongs, crime reduction and training.

The Sunshine Coast RCMP also recognized RCMP chaplain Andrew "Chappy" Barker for more than six years of voluntary service.

Berdahl presented Barker with the detachment commander's certificate of appreciation.

"Andrew Barker is an appointed voluntary police chaplain who provides support to members of the Sunshine Coast and North Vancouver RCMP detachments," said Berdahl. "His dedication to the members of the force is greatly appreciated and he is a valued member of the Sunshine Coast Detachment."
