The seventh annual Roberts Creek community clean up is fast approaching and organizers are looking for a few helping hands.

The clean up takes place from April 19 to May 16. The Roberts Creek Community Association, Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) and Pitch-in Canada are the sponsors of this opportunity to get the litter out of area ditches and roadsides. Pitch-in Canada provides garbage bags and the SCRD provides garbage tags, but volunteers are needed to do the work.

The clean up kicks off at Earth Day, April 19, with a booth at the mandala from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a display of a large laminated map of Roberts Creek and when volunteers sign up they will be given Pitch-in Canada bags and SCRD garbage tags for curbside pickup. As they sign organizers will mark off the sections of the map they have pledged to clean up. The goal is to match volunteers with every road and street from the cemetery to the Girl Guide Camp.

"This is the seventh year for this event and the community now looks forward to a fresh start and some spring cleaning of our neighborhoods," said Elaine Futterman, one of the event's organizers. "It's a good example of several layers of community co-operating together to get a job done inexpensively and effectively. It's true many hands make light work. With lots of people doing small areas we can accom plish a huge amount."
