Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) will be the first health region in the province to host an online town hall meeting on COVID-19.

Health Minister Adrian Dix announced the series of town halls during his April 15 briefing with provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Dix said the town halls will be hosted by a government and an opposition MLA and the questions will be fielded by the CEO and chief medical health officer from each health authority.

Dix said the idea for the regional town halls came from MLA Norm Letnick, the B.C. Liberal health critic, who worked with Dix on finalizing the details.

“I think it’s very important that we have an opportunity, especially in the regions, for the people that are leading our efforts in these regions, the CEOs of health authorities and medical health officers, to be able to answer directly questions that people in regions have,” Dix said.

The VCH town hall will be held April 17 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA Bowinn Ma and Richmond-Steveston MLA John Yap will co-host with VCH CEO Mary Ackenhusen and medical health officer Dr. Patricia Daly.

The virtual town hall will be live-streamed on the B.C. government Facebook page and questions can be submitted in advance and live during the sessions.
