Vanta Pacific reduces dock size

West Porpoise Bay

Vanta Pacific Resort has cut the size of its planned dock in West Porpoise Bay by about two-thirds. Satisfied with the smaller footprint, District of Sechelt council passed the needed zoning amendment through second and third reading on June 17.

Municipal planner Angela Letman said the proponent reduced “the proposed zoned surface area in the water from 0.408 hectares to 0.177 hectares,” after hearing from the majority of people at a public meeting that they didn’t support the larger dock plan.

While councillors were pleased with the significant reduction in size, some wanted more information including how the dock would be constructed and how many boats could moor at the site.

“The applicant will be coming back for a development permit application, so form and character, materials and those kinds of questions will be answered,” said acting director of development services Mike Vance.

The zoning bylaw is expected to come back to the next council meeting for fourth reading and final adoption.
