Proof of vaccination will now be required to watch indoor sports or participate in public skating and drop-in hockey at Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) facilities.

A Nov. 2 press release from the SCRD said the new requirements come into effect immediately. Previously, vaccination checks for spectators were only done once an attendance threshold of 50 or more spectators aged 12 and over was met.

The public should anticipate delays in being admitted to recreation centres, as staff will require additional time to check proof of vaccination. Adults 18 years and older must also show a corresponding valid government-issued identification. Those 12 to 18 years of age need to show proof of vaccination, but government identification is not required for admission. Neither is required for children under 12.

Proof of vaccination is not required to use SCRD swimming facilities, to attend the Happy Hearts Plus Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, for youth specific (under 22 years) sport and recreational activities or for parents dropping off or picking up their children from those activities.

In addition, masks are mandatory for those aged 5 and over in indoor public settings. This includes all common areas of SCRD sport and fitness centres, when not engaged in physical activity.

Full details are available on scrd.ca/recreation-restart. The webpage asks that everyone do a self-check in advance of attending a facility and to stay home if experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

The SCRD also notes that hand disinfectant is being provided for use by those attending all programs and indoor spaces.
