Sunshine Coast RCMP are looking for more information after two people were injured when a group of young adults started fighting in the parking lot at a Gibsons strip mall around 4 a.m. Saturday night.

According to Sgt. Russ Howard the initial investigation has revealed that a group of young adults had gathered inside a business located in the strip mall. At some point, members of this group began to fight with each other.

"It is alleged that one of the men involved took possession of a knife and began chasing another one of the men inside the business," said Howard. "He eventually chased him outside to the parking lot, while still brandishing the knife. During the melee, two women involved in the incident were injured, and the suspect male fled the scene prior to police arrival."

Howard said once police attended and attempted to assist, two male members of the group became so unruly that police had to arrest them in order to treat the victims. He said both men were held overnight in police custody.

A 20-year-old female received a stab wound to her thigh and was treated on scene by paramedics, then transported to Vancouver General Hospital via air ambulance for further treatment. A 17-year-old female was also cut across her thigh, and was transported by her parents to St Mary's Hospital for treatment.

Police are continuing to investigate. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
