Two Sunshine Coast men are facing a variety of charges after being arrested last week for their alleged roles in a pair of unrelated break-ins.

According to Sunshine Coast RCMP, officers responded to a break and enter in progress at a business in the 4700 block Highway 101 in Sechelt on Aug. 14.

"The suspect used an umbrella stand to smash the glass at the Pier 17 Marketplace, gained entry, stole some keys, then headed to the Blue Sky Motel where he pulled off a window screen and attempted to enter the building, but was blocked by a chair," said Cpl. Steve Chubey in a news release. "Police located the male who advised he was having a psychotic episode. The male was arrested without incident."

Chubey said the 55-year-old Sechelt man has been charged with break and enter and mischief, and was released by a Judicial Justice of the Peace on an undertaking to attend Sechelt provincial court on Aug. 21.

On Aug. 17 at approximately 12:30 a.m., RCMP responded to a break and enter at the Pender Harbour Hotel.

"The suspect had allegedly made entry to the hotel, knocking on several hotel room doors. He then entered an office in the hotel and stole a desktop computer system, along with several other items," said Chubey. "Police reviewed the surveillance video and were able to identify the thief."

At approximately 2 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle matching the description of the suspect driving suspiciously in the 5700 block of Trout Road in Halfmoon Bay.

"At approximately 4 a.m., police located the vehicle, stopping it near the 5700 block of Teredo Street in Sechelt. The suspect was arrested without incident," said Chubey.

A 45-year-old Sechelt man was charged with break and enter and has been remanded in custody to appear in Sechelt provincial court on Aug. 21, along with several other outstanding charges.
