Two North Vancouver residents are facing charges for their alleged involvement in an assault on a Sunshine Coast RCMP officer last Saturday.
According to Sgt. Stu Falebrinza, an RCMP member responded to an anonymous report of a noise complaint at Ted Dixon Field in Sechelt on the morning of Nov. 13.
Falebrinza said while on route to the call, the officer observed a shirtless male being chased by a woman along Xenichen Road.
"The officer stopped to speak with the couple and upon doing so, it became apparent that both the male and female were agitated and very intoxicated," said Falebrinza. "The officer was in the process of arresting the male when the female jumped into the front seat of his police vehicle. While the officer was attempting to remove the female from the police vehicle, the male attacked the police officer. "His female counterpart participated in the attack when she bit and latched onto the officer while the male continued to assault the officer. Several addition members responded immediately to the incident location and assisted in taking the couple into custody."
Falebrinza said RCMP has recommended charges to Crown counsel for approval for assaulting a police officer, uttering threats and obstructing a police officer. The 18-year-old suspect has not been named, as charges have not been approved yet. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Dec. 21.
A charge of assaulting a police officer has also been recommended for approval for a 19-year-old North Vancouver female. She will make her first court appearance on Dec. 7.
Falebrinza said the officer, who the detachment has not named, is a five-year veteran of the force. The officer sustained minor injuries and is on active duty.
