A long-term goal of establishing dedicated pickleball courts in Gibsons was agreed to by town representatives following a meeting with pickleball and tennis players on Aug 12.

Mayor Bill Beamish said the town will start the process by looking for appropriate grants and sites in the community for new courts.
Until a new facility becomes a reality, shared use by pickleballers of the Parkland tennis courts, located off Payne Road in Upper Gibsons, will continue. The town agreed to update court signage to clarify rules around court use and etiquette applicable to players of both sports.

The meeting was called to discuss issues around the sharing of that site and potential conflicts arising from misunderstanding or misinterpretation of court rules. It was attended by Beamish, two town staff members and six people representing the players of both sports.

“While we all concur that the current situation of shared use is not ideal, it was agreed that the groups would work together to reduce tensions that deflect from enjoyment of their respective and shared sports,” Beamish wrote in an email. “By opening a dialogue on this issue we all look forward to working together for the benefit of both sports in Gibsons.”
