A male belted kingfisher eats a juvenile herring at Davis Bay pier Nov. 25. The bird has the remains of a crab’s leg stuck to his mouth.
It’s easy pickings right now, as there are thousands of juvenile herring around and under the pier. They’re also attracting surf scoters, Barrow’s goldeneye, loons, grebes, etc.
