Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 5 to 12:
On Oct. 9 at about 4:15 a.m., a suspect used a cement block to smash a glass door of a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect gained entry through the broken door and stole a black Norco Sight VLT medium-sized electric bike that was outfitted with a Shimano Steps Motor. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-7156.
Break and Enter
• On Oct. 5, at about 5:45 a.m., a suspect was caught on security video attempting to break into a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect, described as a Caucasian male wearing a dark hoodie and a mask covering the lower half of his face, tampered with a gate to gain access to the property and then approached a shop building, reached through an open window, and attempted to steal a chainsaw. The chainsaw fell to the ground and the male is seen leaving the scene empty-handed. Police are attempting to identify the suspect. • On Oct. 11, at about 5:15 a.m., a suspect smashed a window at a business in the 4700 block of Sunshine Coast Highway, Sechelt, to gain entry. The suspect stole several bottles of whiskey before fleeing the scene. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-7203.
Mischief
• Between Oct. 2 and 5, suspects damaged a security camera, an electrical box, and destroyed a Plexiglass sign outside the Festival of the Written Arts pavilion located in the 5500 block of Shorncliffe Avenue, Sechelt. Suspects are also gathering in the area, leaving behind garbage and cigarette butts. Anyone with any information about these incidents of mischief is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file number 2020-800018.
• Overnight on Oct. 12, a suspect damaged a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, kicking the front driver side door and front quarter panel, leaving dents and foot prints behind. No other damage or theft of property was reported. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On Oct. 6, between 9:45 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., a suspect damaged windshield wipers on a vehicle parked in the 5500 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt. No other damage was reported.
Theft
• Between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5, a suspect stole a child’s bike from either the 7800 block of Fawn Road or the 8000 block of Northwood Road, Halfmoon Bay. The stolen bike is described as a child’s blue Norco mountain bike, with serial number 956NCX9K383. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-800019.
• Overnight on Oct. 6, a large flowerpot was stolen from the front of a business in the 5400 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt.
Found Property
• On Oct. 7, a cell phone found at a park in downtown Sechelt was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2020-7126.
• On October 8, a bike that had been found in the 5600 block of Osprey Street, Sechelt, was turned in. The adult bike may be claimed by owner within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-7148.
Collision
• On Oct. 8, police attended a three-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Havies Road, Sechelt. A southbound vehicle had stopped to make a left turn onto Havies Road. The vehicle behind it also stopped but the driver of a third vehicle did not notice traffic was stopped and rear-ended the second vehicle, which then collided into the back of the first vehicle. The second and third vehicle drivers were taken to Sechelt Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and both of their vehicles were towed from the scene. The file is still under investigation.
