The fundraising total continues to climb for the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation thanks to the generosity of Sunshine Coast residents.
On Monday afternoon, the foundation and the St. Mary's Hospital/Health Care Auxiliary raised the thermometer outside the hospital for the Gettin Equipt fundraising drive another $200.000. Hot chocolate provided by Sudexo, made this a very enjoyable event. Bonnie Cannon, president of the auxiliary warmly welcomed the attendees and reminded all of the generosity of the Sunshine Coast. Cannon suggested that when the tree on the hospital grounds lights up with a string for every $100,000, to think of the warmth of the generous community whose donations makes this all possible.
Foundation chair, Maureen Clayton also spoke of the commitment, which has been lowered to $1.5 million by Vancouver Coastal Health, in consort with the Sunshine Coast Regional Health board, the foundation and the auxiliary as a result of the reduced cost of the construction contract. Clayton reminded the community that this fundraising drive is seen as a 'continuous project' until 2013 with the completion of the new expansion/renovation.
Both the auxiliary and the foundation have agreed to continue until the $2 million goal is reached.
"The better St. Mary's Hospitals is, the better off we all will be," said Clayton.
