Theft may mean no fireworks next year

Members of the Sea Cavalcade committee are asking for a thief to return some stolen fireworks equipment, no questions asked, or there may not be a fireworks display at Sea Cavalcade next year. "I hope we can stir up something and get them back.

Members of the Sea Cavalcade committee are asking for a thief to return some stolen fireworks equipment, no questions asked, or there may not be a fireworks display at Sea Cavalcade next year.

"I hope we can stir up something and get them back. Without the equipment we can't even put on the show, so we've either got to get it back or have it replaced - or no show," said Sea Cav fireworks display supervisor Bruce Gravelle.

Sometime between Oct. 9 and Oct. 20 a thief broke in to a building in the 400 block of Mahan Road and stole the two Pyromaster electronic firing controllers and a spool of thin wire. One controller, model SS128, was encased in a slim black plastic case similar to a small briefcase with chrome dials and buttons inside. The other controller, model SS512 expander, is a 30cm by 30cm square plastic box with a rubber cover and plug-ins and gauges inside.

The cost of the stolen equipment is estimated at more than $1,350 and Gravelle said the committee may not be able to afford to replace it. "Being a non-profit organization we don't have very much money to spend on things like that," he said.

He is asking the thief to return the stolen items to the place they were taken from, no questions asked.

"We just want them back," he said.
