On Sept. 30, the second annual National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, schools throughout the lower Sunshine Coast will fly an Every Child Matters flag.

The decision was shared at the Sept. 14 School District 46 school board meeting

At the district office, there will also be a survivor’s flag. Sept. 30 will also be the second day of the month where schools will be closed for a holiday. (On Sept. 19, SD46 is observing the recently announced National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.)

Chair Amanda Amaral said, “Both days are an opportunity for our staff and students and their families to reflect on what it means to be Canadian, and how our citizenship and our country's history influences who we are.”
