The Sunshine Coast RCMP is promoting Project 529, a powerful community-driven solution aimed at reducing bike theft and improving recovery rates for stolen bicycles.

What is Project 529?

Project 529 is a bicycle registration and recovery platform designed to empower cyclists and communities. By registering your bike on the 529 Garage app, you create a digital profile that includes details such as serial numbers, photos and unique identifiers.

In the event of a theft, this information can be quickly shared with police and other 529 users, significantly increasing its chance of recovery.

How Project 529 Benefits the Community and Police

For community members

  • Provides a secure, centralized way to register your bike for free.
  • Facilitates rapid reporting of stolen bikes.
  • Increases the likelihood of recovery with community and law enforcement collaboration.

For police

  • Streamlines the process of matching stolen bikes to their rightful owners.
  • Enhances community trust and cooperation.
  • Saves time and resources, allowing officers to focus on other priorities.

“We're excited to adopt this innovative tool,” said Staff Sgt. Jennifer Prunty in a news release. “By working together with our community and leveraging Project 529, we can deter bike theft and ensure a safer, more bike-friendly environment on the Sunshine Coast.”

How to start
