Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following incidents between Oct. 18 and Oct. 25.
School bus in ditch
At approximately 8:17 a.m. on Oct. 24, the Sunshine Coast RCMP, along with the Gibsons Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service, responded to a report of a single vehicle collision where it was reported that a school bus had driven into a ditch on Chaster Road in Elphinstone. No injuries were sustained to either the driver or students. It is believed that the collision was caused by a problem with the steering box. An inspection from Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement has been initiated.
Selling stolen goods
On Oct. 18, police received information that a male was attempting to sell a stolen tool valued at $900. The owner of the stolen tool called police and advised them that the tool had been stolen from his property in early April and that he had heard of the attempted transaction. With information garnered from the complainant, Sunshine Coast RCMP apprehended the suspect, located and seized the stolen item from his vehicle. The suspect, a 47-year-old Sechelt man, has been charged with possession of stolen property.??
Smash and grab
On Oct. 19, while the occupants were away for less than an hour, a thief smashed a window of a locked vehicle parked near Ocean Beach Esplanade and 2nd Street and stole a black Bagallini purse and a backpack. The items stolen include a passport, cash, credit cards, prescription glasses and various forms of identification. Whether you are parking your vehicle for the night or for a short period of time, the RCMP would like to remind the public to remove any and all valuables from their vehicles. ?
Fireworks thief
Between Oct. 9 and 20, a thief broke in to a building in the 400 block of Mahan Road and stole two Pyromaster electronic firing controllers and a spool of thin wire. One controller, model SS128, was encased in a slim black plastic case that resembles a small briefcase with an interior of chrome with dials and buttons; the second controller, model SS512 expander is a 12"x12" square plastic box with a rubber cover and a interior with plug-ins for cables and gauges. These items are used to set off fireworks and are very distinctive looking. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 11-7575.??
Impaired drivers
An impaired driver was caught near Gibsons Way and Pratt Road after an on-duty officer witnessed a vehicle driving erratically with its high beams on. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, who showed signs of intoxication, was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver failed the test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.??
An on-duty officer stopped a vehicle displaying an expired insurance decal near Redrooffs Road and Fawn Road, and found the driver to be exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver was given, and failed, two alcohol-screening tests. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a violation ticket for no insurance. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.??
A witness reported a possible impaired driver, who was tailgating and swerving all over the road on Hwy 101 near Roberts Creek Road. The witness provided the licence plate, vehicle description and direction of travel. An officer located the vehicle in downtown Sechelt and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, who admitted drinking earlier in the day, was given a roadside alcohol screen test, with a fail result. The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.?
