Island residents will be staying put today, Oct. 27, as inclement weather cancelled all sailings on the Stormaway for the day.

The 25 scheduled stops serve travel between Gambier and Keats islands and Gibsons, but all of the Stormaway's trips are suspended from 10:15 a.m. through 6:30 p.m.

A special weather statement is in effect for the Sunshine Coast, from Langdale to Powell River, as strong winds cover the Strait of Georgia and near Howe Sound. Those southeast winds are expected to reach 60 kilometres per hour but gusting to 80. South of Sechelt, the strong winds are expected to weaken in the afternoon to early evening, according to Environment Canada.
