The Sunshine Coast Trails Society (SCTS) and Lees and Associates are in the process of completing their regional trail strategy for early next year.

The strategy will be a long-range planning document designed to provide direction for the development and management of a sustainable trail network.

Last month has been a busy time as data have been collected and stakeholders have voiced their views.

There were three open houses held across the Lower Sunshine Coast in Madeira Park, Sechelt and Roberts Creek, and approximately 123 people were in attendance in total. In addition, more than 350 on-line surveys have been filled out. The data collected so far showed that more than 127 different trails were identified as important and currently being used by community members across the Lower Sunshine Coast.

It is important to note that engaging all stakeholders is very important throughout the trails strategy including the forest industry, First Nations, all levels of government and all the various outdoor recreational groups on the Sunshine Coast.

If you missed an open house, the SCTS will have a booth and maps set up at the Banff Mountain Film Festival this Friday (Nov. 22) at Elphinstone Secondary School.

Online surveys will be open until Nov. 25 and can be accessed at http://sctrails.ca/.
