Squamish Nation hereditary Chief Ian Campbell has announced that he will be seeking to run for mayor of Vancouver.
On May 14, Campbell said he was looking to become Vision Vancouver’s candidate in the upcoming fall municipal elections.
Campbell held a press conference to announce his campaign, and also made a post online.
“My offer is this: new leadership that responds to fear and despair with hope for a brighter future,” reads a message on Campbell’s campaign website.
“That means hitting the reset button, and moving forward with a fresh new kind of leadership, that brings people together, that forges a pathway forward to the future founded in the eternal value of caring for the land, the waters and each other.”
Following the announcement that Mayor Gregor Robertson would not be seeking re-election this year, many have been wondering whether Vision Vancouver will be able to maintain its hold over city hall.
