Gibsons council received a letter from John Hird of Speed Watch recently saying there is real concern of excessive speeding especially along Seaview Road.

Hird said that stretch of residential street is being treated like a highway and he would like to see a walkway provided, in addition to the Town's future implementation of a sidewalk, to assist in calming traffic.

On April 28 between 3 and 4 p.m., 224 vehicles were surveyed on Gibsons Way below Hicks Lane. Of those 224 vehicles, 26 exceeded the 50 km/h limit and seven were found exceeding 60 km/h.

With the letter and figures in hand, council passed a recommendation at its June 7 meeting asking for a strategy to be established for more regular deployments of Speed Watch on Gibsons Way in the vicinity of Hicks Lane.

Park vending

The food vending issue, one that has been discussed and debated at length in the District of Sechelt, was dished up amongst council members June 7.

The popular food truck, Feastro the Rolling Bistro, set up shop at Winegarden Park two months ago, after being given a temporary business permit, but shortly thereafter re-located to downtown Vancouver. Their business was well received at the location, prompting council to re-examine other possible ventures.

"It's not an idea we want to give up on. There is nothing specific on the radar, but this is a direction we'd certainly like to look in," said Coun. Wayne Rowe.

Council passed a recommendation to investigate other opportunities for commercial vending or marketing in public areas.

GLBA

During council's oral reports, acting mayor LeeAnn Johnson announced the demise of the Gibsons Landing Busi-ness Association.

Gibsons chief administrative officer Warren Way-cheshen said there would be a meeting with Best Coast Initiatives, an economic development agent for the Town of Gibsons, to look at options in moving forward business ideas now that the GLBA has disbanded.

Coun. Gerry Tretick suggested work should also be done with the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce.
