A Pontiac Sunfire was captured by radar driving 101 km/h in a 50 km/h zone at Pratt and Kearton Road in Elphinstone, Sunshine Coast RCMP said.

The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 12 while RCMP were conducting speed enforcement in and around the area of Pratt and Payne Road.

Police said the 27-year-old driver was issued tickets for excessive speeding and not having a driver’s licence. As well, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Within a two-hour period, police issued three more speeding tickets in the same area.

“This is an ongoing concern in this area and others on the Sunshine Coast with an increase in deer being struck by vehicles,” said Const. Karen Whitby.

“This is a residential area where family and kids ride bikes and go for walks and the only protection to them is to have drivers respect the speed limit.”
