Incumbent member of the legislative assembly (MLA) Nicholas Simons will try to regain his seat in Victoria for the New Democrats in the May 12 provincial election.
Simons, MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast, received the NDP nomination at a nominating convention on Saturday, Feb. 7, in Powell River. Simons was uncontested for the nomination.
"I am looking forward to continuing to work hard for the people of Powell River-Sunshine Coast," said Simons. "I've learned a lot over the past four years representing Powell River-Sunshine Coast and I will approach the next four years with the same work ethic and dedication that gave people confidence to vote for me despite being relatively unknown in 2005."
Constituency association president Bill Forst said local members and supporters are delighted Simons is seeking another term in Victoria. "Nicholas' attention to issues of importance to our community has earned him a broad base of respect," said Forst. "Whether it be speaking up for families, environmental protection, ferries and roads, tourism or small business, Nicholas is seen and heard. I have heard from people of all walks of life and of all political stripes who appreciate his hard work and dedication."
Forst said the association is preparing for a pre-election campaign kick-off in early March.
