Traffic along Highway 101 near Wilson Creek was tied up for hours on Saturday afternoon after a three-vehicle accident.

Around 1 p.m. on April 27, Sunshine Coast RCMP and paramedics responded to a report of a three-vehicle collision in the 4500 block of the Sunshine Coast Highway in Wilson Creek.

"Police had learned that an eastbound vehicle had stopped in traffic in order to make a left turn, when it was rear-ended by another eastbound vehicle, sending the stopped vehicle into the oncoming lane, where it stuck an oncoming vehicle head-on," said Cpl. Steve Chubey in a news release. "The drivers of the vehicles involved in the head-on collision sustained severe whiplash, and were transported to St. Mary's Hospital. Police were forced to close the highways for a period of time in order to conduct their investigation and remove the vehicles and debris left behind from the crash."

Chubey said the driver of the following vehicle was not injured and was issued a ticket for following too closely.
