Police are asking for assistance from the public after the Esso service station in Sechelt was robbed for the second time in two weeks.
The most recent robbery happened around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 2. A man came into the gas station with a scarf hiding his face and demanded the money in the cash register. When the cashier told the man there was no money in the till, the man instead demanded cigarettes and left. He was last seen running in the direction of the Sundance Trailer Park across the street. The case is similar to an earlier robbery at the Esso shortly before 3 a.m. on July 27. In that case, a masked man holding a weapon demanded money from the till and left. Police did not reveal what kind of weapon was used, except to say it was not a gun or a knife.
Police are still investigating both robberies and could not say whether the same person might have committed both.
"We're not saying it's linked," said RCMP Const. Glen Martin.
The first robber was described as about five feet eleven inches tall, wearing a dark baseball cap and a white bandana covering his face. The second robber was described as about five feet eight inches tall, with a heavy build, wearing a black hoody jacket, blue jeans and a scarf over his face.
Police ask anyone with further information to phone the RCMP detachment at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
