The following are briefs from the April 21 District of Sechelt regular council meeting.

Childcare Council

District of Sechelt Mayor Darnelda Siegers and Coun. Brenda Rowe will be municipal appointees to the Joint Childcare Council, a council that comes out of the Childcare Action Plan released in 2020, which followed a tri-sponsored, grant-funded initiative from the Town of Gibsons, Sechelt and Sunshine Coast Regional District. 

Community grants

Sechelt awarded $43,508 in Community Investment Program Grants. Funds awarded ranged between $1,000 and $4,230. Recipients of the grants included: 

Coast Recital Society,  Coast Rogue Arts Society, Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC, Davis Bay – Wilson Creek – Selma Park Community Association, Gibsons Public Art Gallery, One Straw Society, Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society, Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra Association, Sunshine Coast Community Services Society (SCCSS)’s Arrowhead program, SCCSS’s Volunteer Program,  SCCSS’s Safe Neighbourhoods Project, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society, Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association,  Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society,  Sunshine Coast Writers and Editors Society and Sechelt Downtown Business Association for their Festival of Light.
