Sechelt's Flo Rublee joined 300 other cycling enthusiasts and event volunteers Sept. 7 and 8, for the BC Lung Association's 29th Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath (Trek).
Trek is a two-day, 200km cycling fundraiser in support of vital lung health research, programs and clean air initiatives. It was Rublee's first time participating in the event and her team, Ruthless Riders, was the top fundraising team, raising more than $20,000 to support The BC Lung Association.
The event itself raised more than $200,000 thanks to donations from friends, family and coworkers. This total builds upon the $5.8 million previously raised by 'Trekkers' during the event's 29-year lifespan.
"The event has a real family feel with less fanfare than other, bigger commercial fundraisers but with a lot of heart and soul," said event organizer Kate Jarvis. "It's a grassroots affair that has grown over time - and there is a true sense of community amongst participants, many of whom meet here once a year and share in the spirit of giving back."
