Sechelt dismisses corporate officer, looks for permanent staff

Briefs

District of Sechelt corporate officer Margi Nicholas has been let go, a new temporary corporate officer has been hired and a personnel committee has been struck to find new senior staff to fill temporary positions now held at the District.

“We have an acting CAO, an acting director of development, we have, starting tomorrow morning [Aug. 6], an acting corporate officer. We have a temporary government and we would like to have a permanent staff,” Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne said during the Aug. 5 regular council meeting where the changes were announced.

He said Nicholas had been “let go” as of July 27 but that he could not explain further as the District was still in discussions with Nicholas to finalize her dismissal and possible severance package.

Milne said he would release an organizational review that would shed some light on the situation as soon as possible but noted it could not be released at this time.

“I’ve been trying to get that out,” he said.

In the meantime, Sechelt has hired temporary corporate officer Gerry Van Der Wolf to take over the position, which includes dealing with freedom of information requests and business licence inspections.

Sechelt council has also appointed councillors Noel Muller and Doug Wright to a new personnel committee, which will be tasked with helping recruit and select new permanent senior staff for the District.
