School District No. 46 (SD46) has received $7,317 to seek out possible energy savings in the district next year.
The money was granted last week through the provincial government's $5 million carbon neutral capital program.
"Last year we celebrated becoming the first carbon neutral government in North America," Environment Minister Terry Lake said in a press release June 19.
"This year, guided by extensive consultation, we're ensuring schools get new money tied to their emission and energy reduction efforts and in doing so solidifying our leadership while inspiring the climate action leaders of tomorrow."
Secretary treasurer for SD46 Nicholas Weswick said the money has been granted, but the process won't start until after school's back in session in September.
"We're receiving the money because we are a smaller district without an energy manager on staff and will need to hire consultants to help with this process," he said. "We'll begin this process in the fall."
All school districts in B.C. will be able to apply for funding in future years for projects that help reduce emissions and save on energy costs.
