The Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization (SCREDO) is absorbing another previous initiative.
SCREDO announced Nov. 11 that the Voice on the Coast society will be closing down after eight years, and SCREDO would be carrying on its work as Voice Lab.
“Through engagement, networking, capacity building and advocacy, the Voice on the Coast society has worked to raise awareness of political, social and economic development issues facing young adults on the Sunshine Coast,” the announcement said.
The Sunshine Coast Community Foundation helped fund the group’s surveys and data analysis.
SCREDO’s board said it now plans to “relaunch Voice into the realm of action.”
“We are looking for a committed group of young adults who want to identify economic development projects that are both timely and relevant to their demographic,” said SCREDO vice-chair Maria Hampvent. “We want to empower young adults to have a venue for communication and civic engagement.”
SCREDO has also taken on the work previously done through This is the Coast, an initiative to attract young families to the area, and the Fuse Community Work Hub, a co-working space in Gibsons.
The transfer from Voice on the Coast to Voice Lab will be marked with a combination wrap-up and launch celebration at the Roberts Creek Community Hall on Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
