Campaign financial disclosure statements were recently released by the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD).
The newly-elected Pender Harbour Egmont director Franko Mauro spent just over $728 to secure his victory over rival Mike Carson, who spent $1,501 according to the disclosures.
While Mauro secured 59 per cent of the vote, he documented zero contributions to his campaign. Carson, however, was able to raise $1,519.
Mauro was the only candidate elected who spent less than their opponents.
Across the Coastal regions the election saw the incumbents returning to their seats on the SCRD board.
Halfmoon Bay director Garry Nohr, who was also re-elected as SCRD chair, listed only one donation of $150 for a campaign that cost $1,521 and secured 68 per cent of the vote.
Nohr listed an out-of-pocket donation of $1,372.
His opponent, Roger Lagasse, spent $780 on his campaign, almost half of which was his own money.
Roberts Creek director Donna Shugar spent the most to get elected at $3,148, most of which was covered by contributions. Her biggest expense was signage at $1,660.
Shugar faced the $1,597 campaign of Hans Penner as well as Barbara Hague, who spent $721.
Against her two opponents, Shugar achieved a landslide victory by taking in 66 per cent of the vote.
The Elphinstone candidates were the most frivolous in their campaigns. Laura Wallace failed to defeat incumbent Lorne Lewis, but she didn't spend a dime.
Lewis raised $340 and spent just over $500.
West Howe Sound director Lee Turnbull was acclaimed.
