Roof renewal projects at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre and Sechelt Aquatic Centre can proceed. A bylaw to authorize the borrowing of up to $3,456,200 for those purposes was adopted at the July 27 Sunshine Coast Regional District board meeting.
That bylaw was introduced in April of this year and was one of two that were the subject of alternative approval processes. At the meeting, the board received a staff report said eight individuals filed paperwork in objection to the recreation sites' borrowing, well below the threshold of 10 per cent of electors in the service area (which the report agenda noted was calculated at 2,408).
Another borrowing that had been under the alternative approval process, for $623,200 for a Halfmoon Bay Fire Protection Service Rescue Fire Apparatus Replacement project, was also approved at the meeting. In that case, no elector objections to the borrowing were filed.
