On Thursday, May 9, Coast residents will have a chance to hear provincial candidates' views on local and provincial environmental issues.

The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) has, for many years, sponsored a timely forum in advance of both municipal and provincial elections that addresses this important matter. The forum takes place at Greencourt Hall, 5583 Ocean Avenue, Sechelt, at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting allows both candidates and the public an opportunity to discuss the environmental issues of the day in a tight format. The forum is entirely non-partisan: the SCCA does not endorse any one candidate, but encourages the public to learn more about the views of each candidate and of the party that each represents. Three questions will be presented to candidates in advance of the forum: responses will appear on thescca.ca website.

Issues that have emerged in previous forums include: land use planning, drinking water, aquatic ecosystems, implications of climate change, forestry, parks and more.
