Saturday service continues for handyDART

Saturday handyDART service has its place in the Sunshine Coast Regional District's (SCRD) 2011 budget.

Saturday handyDART service has its place in the Sunshine Coast Regional District's (SCRD) 2011 budget.

Approved during the third round of budget talks, SCRD staff broke down the net increase of $5,300 in taxation at the March 24 corporate and administrative services meeting, explaining the amount will cover some of the cost of handyDART drivers.

The approved Saturday service is not only in this year's budget, but also in the 2011 to 2015 financial plan after running as a successful pilot project initiated in October 2010.

Community garden

Revisiting the idea of community gardens, directors discussed the issue of garden implementation and facilitation with School District No. 46 (SD46).

With Roberts Creek Elementary School keen on the creation of a garden, directors agreed it would be a good place for the project to start. Directors passed a motion to send a letter to SD46 with a copy to the school expressing their interest in creating a community garden and wishing to engage in discussion on how to make it happen.

SWMP

While the solid waste management plan is still inching its way closer to going out for wider public consultation, the District of Sechelt has requested a service review of the SCRD's solid waste management service.

On March 3, the SCRD received a letter from the District providing formal notice of their desire to initiate a review of the service. SCRD staff recommended directors forward a letter to the District to acknowledge receipt of their letter as well as the forthcoming date of the preliminary review meeting. It was also recommended directors ask the District if they wish to appoint a party representative for the service review.

Additionally, staff recommended a letter be sent to the Town of Gibsons and the Sechelt Indian Government District asking if either organization wishes to appoint a party representative for the service review.

Directors passed the recommendations and further correspondence will continue.
