Roberts Creek is updating its official community plan (OCP) and residents are invited to attend the public launch, April 1.
The region's current OCP was adopted in 1994. A vision meeting and various community engagements have led to the creation of the new document, which has received its first reading.
There will be two presentations at the Roberts Creek Hall, doors open at 10 a.m.
If no substantial changes come about from the launch, the new OCP will proceed to second reading.
Staff at the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) will take the information gathered from the meeting and pass it on to the committee to make any necessary edits.
"If they are not substantive, this whole business can be given an amended second reading. If they are substantive, then we have to go back to the public," explained Roberts Creek director Donna Shugar.
Shugar said no significant objections were made when the plan was presented back in May.
Overall, it has been a three-year process, starting with the formulation of a citizens' group tasked with providing a community vision as the basis for the new OCP.
Using that framework, community meetings were held to identify objectives and policies that residents wanted to see become a part of the area's future.
Shugar said the committee involved between 12 to 18 people throughout the process.
"They stuck it out. It's quite amazing: some of these folks were the same people who were involved in 1994," she said. "It's quite an old plan and it needs to be updated. I'm excited about the next steps."
There will be two formal presentations of the OCP on April 1, one at 10:30 a.m. and the other at 12:30 p.m.
Residents can pass on their comments, which will be forwarded to the committee for review, if necessary. Comments can also be made ahead of time by contacting the SCRD's planning department by emailing [email protected] or call the SCRD at 604-885-6800 and ask to speak with someone in the planning department.
