Residents on Gambier Island have once again been targeted by thieves after two break and enter calls last week to seasonal residences.

Sunshine Coast RCMP attended Gambier Island on Aug. 17 and 18 to investigate the break-ins.

According to Cpl. Steve Chubey, in the first break-in it was discovered that a door was left unlocked, secured only by a nail, while thieves broke a window in order to gain entry into the second residence.

Chubey said several tools, gas cans and household items, including toothbrushes, cleaning supplies and deodorant were stolen.

"The items stolen suggest that the thieves may be homeless, perhaps squatting or living on a boat in the area," said Chubey.

Other items taken were of significant value including an iMac Computer, Native carvings, binoculars, telescopes and a wheel barrel.

RCMP are asking Gambier residents to be vigilant and to keep an eye on their neighbours properties, reporting all suspicious persons or boats in the area; obtain detailed descriptions if possible. Anyone with information on these or any other crime can contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
