National Restorative Justice Week is being celebrated across the country from Nov. 14 to 21.
This year's theme is reflexions past, present and future.
The Community Justice Program here on the Sunshine Coast will be paying tribute to the week by hosting an information table at the Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt on Friday, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is welcome to come out and learn about the benefits of membership and how the Community Justice Program is engaging the community in restorative responses to crime and conflict on the Sunshine Coast.
"Restorative Justice Week gives us all an opportunity to reach out and engage our community in an on-ongoing dialogue concerning the social response to crime and the areas in which restorative justice demonstrates benefits in addressing the harms affecting Canadians as a result of crime, while striving for accountability, healing and safety," said Tania Petrellis, director, Restorative Justice Division, Correctional Service Canada. "The theme for Restorative Justice Week 2010, acknowledges the beginning of a new decade as a good time to reflect on the growth and achievements of the past; to take stock of the present and to set new objectives for the future."
