Sunshine Coast RCMP say they’ll have extra officers on patrol during the prime trick-or-treating hours Wednesday.
Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam said with Halloween falling mid-week this year, it’s especially important to remind drivers to keep an eye out for children who may not be paying attention to traffic.
She also said RCMP will be keeping an eye out for violations of fireworks bylaws in the municipalities. Sechelt bans the sale and use of fireworks and firecrackers. Gibsons allows them with a permit. Hallam said she’s aware of one permit granted so far in Gibsons.
There are no specific bylaws around fireworks in the Sunshine Coast Regional District.
The shíshálh Nation is sponsoring a public fireworks display on the waterfront starting around 8 p.m.
Hallam said Sunshine Coast RCMP will also be on hand, providing hot chocolate for spectators.
There is also a fireworks display in Pender Harbour. The skies will light up over Seafarer’s Millennium Park at 7:30 p.m.
