RCMP offers new options for crime reporting

Sunshine Coast Crime Stoppers is partnering with Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers to offer a range of new options for reporting crimes anonymously.

Sunshine Coast Crime Stoppers is partnering with Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers to offer a range of new options for reporting crimes anonymously.

People with information on crimes can now use the Internet, including Facebook, or they can send texts from their cell phone.

"This technology is providing different methods to communicate with Crime Stoppers and reflects the new ways people are using to communicate with each other," said Const. Jacob Joslin, the Sunshine Coast RCMP Crime Stoppers liaison. "We want to make it easy and give people options."

According to the Sun-shine Coast RCMP, the information provided goes to the Crime Stoppers programs, who then forward it to the police. All reports are completely anonymous.

Those people not as concerned with being anonymous have the option of calling the local detachment at 604-885-2266 or dropping in to the Sechelt or Gibsons detachments.

"The important thing is that people have options for addressing crime in their community," added Joslin.

If you have information on a crime and would like to remain anonymous, contact Sunshine Coast Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property or the seizure of illicit drugs, you could be eligible for a cash award of up to $2,000.
