RCMP investigating fatal collision

An 89-year-old Sechelt man was killed when his mobility scooter collided with a pick-up truck in Sechelt last Friday night. On May 25, Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to the accident at the intersection of Cowrie Street and Ocean Avenue.

An 89-year-old Sechelt man was killed when his mobility scooter collided with a pick-up truck in Sechelt last Friday night.

On May 25, Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to the accident at the intersection of Cowrie Street and Ocean Avenue. Paramedics and the Sechelt fire department also attended providing medical care for the man who was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"The victim was observed by witnesses' moments prior to the collision driving his mobility scooter erratically on the sidewalk, forcing them to move out of the way," said Cpl. Steve Chubey. "They discovered that the victim was struck by a pick-up at the crosswalk at the intersection after they heard the crash."

Chubey said the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction (ICARS) team, along with Sunshine Coast Traffic Services attended the scene and the investigation is on-going.

The victim has been identified as 89-year-old Phillipe Page.
