RCMP incident report includes more impaired driving complaints

Incidents of impaired driving are up across the Sunshine Coast from this same time last year, according to RCMP.

Here’s a small refresher from the RCMP – if you leave your wallet in your vehicle, there’s a good chance it’s going to be stolen.

Theft from vehicle

On April 23, a suspect gained access to a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Keith Road in Gibsons and stole a wallet containing personal information and bank cards. No other theft or damage was reported. Police recommended the owner report his identification theft to Equifax and wnts to remind the public to remove valuables from their vehicles.

Scam

On April 23, a Coast resident reported being defrauded money from his bank account. The resident was having Gmail issues and contacted a company claiming to be Gmail. After accessing the computer remotely, the scammer was able to obtain $1,000.

Impaired driving

On April 19, a witness reported a possible impaired driver who was swerving and speeding in the 5900 Block of the Sunshine Coast Highway in Sechelt. After locating the vehicle, police administered a roadside alcohol screening test, which resulted in a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition.

On April 27, a witness reported a possible impaired driver who drove over a curb in the 1100 Block of Sunshine Coast Highway in Gibsons. Police located the vehicle and noted the driver was exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol. The driver was given and failed two roadside alcohol screening tests. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for thirty days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
