A 41-year-old Gibsons man was arrested and taken into custody Monday evening following numerous reports about a dangerous driver.

Sunshine Coast RCMP received several calls starting at about 6:30 p.m. on April 12 about a black Honda Civic driving “aggressively and dangerously” in Sechelt, Gibsons and around Port Mellon, according to an RCMP release issued the next day.

“Callers reported that the driver was possibly impaired as he drove at high speeds and passed cars crossing double solid yellow lines,” the release said.

Several police vehicles attended and the vehicle was eventually stopped on Highway 101 near North Road in front of Persephone Brewing Company.

The driver was taken into custody. No one else was in the car.

Police said the man has been prohibited from driving since 2019.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dash-cam footage of the car is asked to contact Sunshine Coast RCMP, using the file number 2021-2335.
